A Kathmandu, il movimento non è solo un modo per spostarsi. È una condizione dell’esistenza.

Questo progetto racconta la presenza quotidiana di biciclette e risciò nella città, non come semplici mezzi di trasporto, ma come strumenti di lavoro, sopravvivenza e identità. Su queste due ruote si sviluppano micro-economie: venditori ambulanti, piccoli commerci, officine improvvisate, taxi umani che attraversano il traffico e le strade strette.

La bicicletta diventa una struttura adattabile, capace di trasformarsi in base alle necessità. Trasporta merci, storie e talvolta intere famiglie. Viene modificata, riparata, reinventata continuamente, riflettendo la resilienza di chi la utilizza.

Nel caos di Kathmandu emergono anche momenti più intimi: un bambino che gioca mentre la madre lavora, un uomo che sistema una ruota sul bordo della strada, un conducente in attesa della prossima corsa. Frammenti di vita quotidiana in cui movimento e quiete convivono.

Più che cercare lo spettacolo, questo lavoro osserva e si avvicina al ritmo della strada, dove l’equilibrio è allo stesso tempo fisico ed esistenziale.

In Kathmandu, movement is not just a way to get from one place to another. It is a condition of life.

This project explores the everyday presence of bicycles and rickshaws in the city — not as simple means of transport, but as tools of work, survival, and identity. On these two wheels, entire micro-economies exist: fruit vendors, street food sellers, improvised workshops, and human-powered taxis navigating through dense traffic and narrow streets.

The bicycle becomes a structure that adapts to necessity. It carries goods, stories, and sometimes entire families. It is constantly modified, repaired, and reimagined, reflecting the resilience and ingenuity of the people who depend on it. Amid the chaos of Kathmandu, these scenes reveal quieter moments: a child playing while a parent works, a man fixing a wheel by the roadside, a driver waiting for the next ride. These fragments of daily life form a visual narrative where movement and stillness coexist.

Rather than focusing on spectacle, this work seeks to observe and understand — to stay close to the rhythm of the street, where balance is both physical and existential.
